Dr Tim Noakes is a prominent and highly respected South African sports scientist.
He is professor of exercise and sports science at the University of Cape Town

He has mentored and advised many athletes over many years and has himself run many standard and ultra-marathons.
In his many books he used to advocate carbo-loading for endurance sport, but in the last few years he has been doing research on the harm that high carb diets cause, especially for people that are predisposed to diabetes.

He has caused a lot of controversy by completely reversing the theories of the factors that contribute to weight gain and diabetes by advocating the High Fat Low Carb diet

The Q & A interview below is a good introduction to the many interviews with Tim Noakes about his diet

biznews.com/health 19/01/2015

The Youtube link below (January 2015) is an excellent introduction to his theories.
He also talks about Methotraxate, Statins and genetically modified grains.
For anyone on Methotraxate or Statins he has some sober warnings
He also mentions Shane Watson (he calls him Shaun) and David Warner from the Australian cricket team who have gone on the diet. Subsequent to this presentation, Steve Smith and Mitchell Johnson have also gone on the diet (see the page on Dr Peter Brukner)
